Breaking Ground

This post was imported from a blog called Contemporation where Amy and I wrote about the renovation of our 80’s contemporary home in Atlanta. That blog is no more but I wanted the content to live on.

Ok, well it’s a really just a small section of ground and we only broke it to check the depth of the existing footing on the wall we’re adding on to. The architect planned for several spot footings to be poured to support vertical beams that would carry the load of a beefed up double wall. The general contractor thinks this is overkill and that the existing wall and footings are sufficient to add on to. To resolve this difference of opinion, we all agreed that it’d be best to expose a small segment of the current wall footing and let a structural engineer decide. Once that decision has been made, we’ll be submitting our final construction drawings to the city and hopefully breaking ground for real!
